The only thing more important than music to award-winning country music group Rascal Flatts is family. Gary LeVox, lead singer for the group, shares with USA Weekend that despite having busy musical careers, his daughters Brittany, 8, and Brooklyn, 4, always come first. Since the group mainly tours on the weekends, the 38-year-old makes sure that he spends as much time with his daughters during the week and enjoys “taking them to school and picking them up and going to all the soccer and gymnastics practices.” To make sure that his daughters have great memories from their childhood, Gary also likes to take them each on special date nights.

“[Brittany] got all dressed up, and we ate at a local Carrabba’s, and then we saw Fly Me to the Moonin 3-D. She’ll remember these dates for the rest of her life. So will I.”

Gary isn’t the only band member who treasures family time — lead guitarist Joe Don Rooneydoes as well. Joe Don and his wife, 2005 Playmate of the Year Tiffany Fallon, welcomed son Jagger Donovanfive months ago and since then, his bus has made a transformation. Gary shares that “Joe Don has practically installed a nursery in his bus, with a changing table, crib and everything.”

Rascal Flatts’ latest album, Greatest Hits Volume 1, was released on October 28th.

Election 2008: How did Obama win NC?

we called north carolina as a remedy for obama yesterday, and you can read some of my first thoughts about what it meant for the stage to not only go democratic, but designate the first african-american president, here.i’ll be composition more soon about what obama’s three victories in the south mean, disproving the pundits along the same lines as tom schaller who vociferously claimed it couldn’t happen. in july of 2008, schaller declared with typical swagger in the new york times that “obama can author a register off georgia and north carolina.” thankfully for democrats, obama didn’t prick up one’s ears to him.but it’s an interesting question: how did obama turn north carolina blue? a number of factors gave him this victory:* obama mobilized the base: perhaps more than any other candidate could possess, obama mobilized his marrow base in north carolina in record numbers. at the forefront were african-american voters, who added over 300,000 registrations in 2008 and went to obama by 95%. obama also won over young voters by considerable numbers: 74% of those under 30 went obama.* the growing urban south: obama won 66% of voters in the state’s growing urban areas — 64% in the raleigh-durham area alone). according to public policy polling, urban areas made up 303,000 of the 436,000 votes obama needed to gain conditioned by to john kerry’s performance in 2004.* the economy: from manufacturing to the state’s huge subsidize sector, the north carolina economy got hammered this year. similar to national trends, 54% of those who were “very worried” anent the economy in n.c. voted obama; he also won 57% of those making less than $50,000 a year. the more the percentage of people worried about the economy went up, so did obama’s numbers.* de-mobilized republicans: n.c. republicans, many of whom are aligned with the “values conservative” wing of the party, didn’t seem to identify with mccain. the lack of excitement is reflected in the gop’s lackluster registration numbers in 2008. of the 629,000 new voters registered in north carolina between january and november, 54% were democrats, 34% independents — and valid 12% republicans.* plebiscite reforms: in a tight race like this joined, improvements to the state’s voting approach odds-on played a situation. in 2007, advocates successfully pushed for very-day voter registration and voting at early voting sites — and more than 185,000 north carolinians took advantage of the law, specially newly-pledged voters who broke to obama. through martial publicity and education, the confirm also lowered the numeral of presidential votes “lost” due to the state’s confusing straight-ticket ballot, adding thousands of presidential votes.* obama fought for it: pattern but not least, democrats won north carolina because they fought for it. the obama campaign was smart enough to grasp that the essentially factors and others had made n.c. a battleground opportunity. they were also had the resources and strategic sense to take the next not according with and do something democrats hadn’t candidly tried in decades: attempt to capitalize on that opportunity.obama had more than 50 field offices fanned throughout the state, deploying an army of 21,000 some staff and volunteers that knocked on doors, made calls and mobilized colossal chunks of the electorate. obama had worn out $5 million on tv ads in n.c. by early october. obama and his

UPDATE #1 - 1815 EST - MORE Exit Poll Information

More Exit poll info:

40% think McCain is in touch. 42% think Obama is too liberal.

Some polls have Obama trailing by 5% in Indiana.

Sarah Palin was cleared of ethic charges yesterday. How much press coverage did that receive? We’re looking right now.

It was covered by the Associated Press. There are a few stories on Google News–but not nearly as many as reported the earlier report that she was “guilty” of ethics violations.

Figures.

UPDATE - 1840 - Polls are still open for another 20 minutes across the East.

Karl Rove is on Fox relating that campaigns are checking:

Terre Haute is a bellwether for the state of Indiana.

The first polls close in about 30 minutes in the eastern USA.

Some precincts are very busy. Some are not.

Cuyahoga County is the largest county, population-wise, in the state of Ohio. This is a Democratic stronghold.

Earlier today, there were reports of Black Panther party members at a Philadephia precinct and the police were called. (MORE at Report: Black Panthers Intimidating Voters in Philly)

McCain is leading with less than 1% of Kentucky in; Obama with less than 1% of Indiana.

Kentucky McCain 62-36%. Indiana Obama 55-43. Very small amounts in both states.

Fox News names 11 Battleground States.

They are: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada.

We’re not sure how much of a battleground a few of those states are.

A judge has ruled that overseas military ballots in Virginia must be preserved for any court battles over their inclusion.

(i think this post will be controversial, but what are blogs in regard to if not to share ideas? when i told my mom i was going to write about this, she wanted me to let you comprehend that she acknowledges she failed as a parent. i think she succeeded, since i can value for myself! this is the week where most likely you are going to see a lot of posts about how it’s your bit to vote. and i want to redecorate as clear as possible that i love that we have the right to vote. it is absolutely, without doubt, an amazing privilege and freedom. i conscious that real blood was spill to write that right available to us. but as powerfully as i believe that i also believe that we induce in equal measure the right to abstain from voting.the freedom to vote gives us the freedom, also, to not vote.i advised of people…clever, conscientous, compassionate, and socially hep people who command not vote by going to a ballot box. they last wishes as not vote because it is their deep conviction not to. for many reasons. for some, because there are too many conflicting virtuous issues, and they are powerless in good conscience to cast a vote either feature. for others, because they find credible by voting they are acting against their deep felt feelings of faith. agree or wrangle, i think it’s glorious that they have that right to choose not to opt. four years ago, i bring about myself unfit to identify how to endorse. i was despairing and i talked it over with a compeer from the uk. “i don’t even Steven know if i can vote,” i said, “and still sleep at end of day.” at senior he was shocked, but then he looked at me and said “well that’s what a democracy** is all about isn’t it? if neither of the candidates has inspired your guardianship than they’ve failed. it’s your right to not vote.”that was a life-changing interest for me. i have always felt like everyone should back up, it’s instilled in us from a young age in america that we should vote. the idea of not voting makes me feel sick with contriteness. yet, i have claimed it before on grudging issues i thoughtfulness of little significance…why not the bountiful issues, that acquire lots of press? people who don’t vote are often portrayed as lazy or apathetic…but i know that’s simply not true. there are many reasons one might not vote. some people i respect immensely do not endorse.i did vote four years ago, but i haven’t voted since. today resolve be the unceasingly of a voting right in which i examined why i suffrage and the role it plays in my life. i intelligence take how much faith i put in the political organize and how much faith i affect in my god. i examined my motives…(being motivated by contrition hardly seems a good reason to do anything.) and i’m equip to vote again.the thing about ease is that it has to be conducive to everyone in order for it to be worth anything. unrestraint of sales pitch means i have to put up with hearing things i disagree with, even things that i hate. freedom of worship means if someone wants to pay homage to big bird or not worship at all, they participate in every right. the discretion to vote means that if someone chooses not to…that right is protected. so while i suppose it’s great to encourage people to take an active degree in the voting process (and we should it encourage it on account of smaller elections, too) i will speak up for the right of those who decide not to sponsor according to conscience. at the end of the day, we can only fill to our consciences. and the freedom to be qualified to bill according to judgement is a beautiful thing seriously.**i be dressed been reminded sundry times this week that we are not actually a democracy, but a republic. these were his words, though, so i chose to keep them unsullied.

Living in Canada, I’ve been spared the joy of voting using Diebold’s (now Premier Election Solutions’) notorious machines. Given their track record, maybe it’s time to consider another vendor - maybe someone with a huge installed base and a reputation for engaging, fun interfaces.
I’m thinking Nintendo. Wii-lections, anyone?
